About This Calculator

The Leather Conditioner Calculator plans the upkeep of a leather interior after an install or a refit. You set the amount per treatment, the care schedule and the bottle size, and the tool returns the conditioner you need per year in ml and fl oz, the bottles to buy, and the months to treat.

People use it for 3 jobs:

  • Budgeting care for a new leather interior right after a refit.
  • Choosing a bottle size that lasts a full year of treatments.
  • Setting a reminder schedule for the next 12 months.

How Do We Calculate Leather Conditioner?

We calculate leather conditioner in 3 steps: amount per treatment, treatments per year, and bottles.

1. Amount per treatment

The starting option uses up to 150 ml (5.1 fl oz) per treatment. Colourlock states that its 150 ml Leather Protector is enough for at least one treatment of a full car interior, so the figure is an upper bound. The amount I used option takes your measured dose. The label option multiplies your product's stated coverage by your leather area, converting between fl oz per sq ft and ml per m² where needed (1 fl oz = 29.57 ml, 1 sq ft = 0.0929 m²).

2. Treatments per year

Treatments per year equal 12 months divided by the months between treatments, rounded up: 4 treatments at every 3 months, 2 at every 6 months. Colourlock advises every 3 months for high-traffic areas such as seats or sunlit spots. Leather Honey states that one treatment of its conditioner lasts six months or longer.

3. Bottles

The amount per year divided by the bottle size, rounded up to whole bottles. Add the price per bottle to see the yearly cost. A full interior at 150 ml every 3 months comes to 600 ml (20.3 fl oz) a year: 4 bottles of 150 ml, or 2 bottles of 16 fl oz.

How to Use This Tool

To use the Leather Conditioner Calculator, follow 4 steps:

  1. Set the amount per treatment. Start with 150 ml, then switch to the amount you used once you have treated the car.
  2. Pick the care schedule. Every 3 months, every 6 months, or a custom interval.
  3. Enter the bottle size. In ml or fl oz, with the price if you want the yearly cost.
  4. Choose the first treatment month. The tool lists the months to treat over the next year.

Tips for Conditioning Leather Seats

Follow 5 tips to get more from each bottle:

  • Clean before you condition. Remove dust and grime first so the conditioner reaches the leather, then let the seat dry.
  • Spot test a hidden area. Try a small amount under the seat or on a back edge first, as Leather Honey advises.
  • Apply thin coats. Work the product in with an applicator pad and buff off whatever the leather does not absorb.
  • Give the seats extra attention. Colourlock singles out high-traffic areas such as seats and sunlit spots for treatment every 3 months.
  • Keep the schedule where you will see it. Save or print the month list so the next treatment does not slip.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers about how much leather conditioner a car needs and how often to use it.

How much leather conditioner do I need for car seats?

Plan on up to 150 ml (5.1 fl oz) per treatment for a full leather interior. Colourlock states that its 150 ml Leather Protector is enough for at least one treatment of a full car interior. After your first treatment, enter the amount you actually used to fit your own car and product.

How often should I condition leather car seats?

Every 3 to 6 months, depending on use. Colourlock advises treatment every 3 months for high-traffic areas such as seats or sunlit spots. Leather Honey states that one treatment of its conditioner lasts six months or longer.

How many bottles of leather conditioner do I need per year?

A full interior treated every 3 months uses up to 600 ml (20.3 fl oz) a year: 4 bottles of 150 ml, or 2 bottles of 16 fl oz (473 ml). Treated every 6 months, it uses up to 300 ml (10.1 fl oz).

Why is my leather not absorbing the conditioner?

Some new car leather carries a factory coating that slows absorption. Leather Honey notes that new leather car seats may be factory-treated with a silicone sealer, so the conditioner may not absorb until the leather is more worn. Spot test first.

How do I measure the amount I used?

Measure the bottle before and after one treatment. Mark the level on the bottle, or pour each dose into a measuring spoon: 1 teaspoon is about 5 ml and 1 tablespoon about 15 ml. Enter the total in the calculator's The amount I used option.

How do I measure the leather area in my car?

Add up the width times the height of each leather surface. Measure each seat cushion and backrest across the front face, plus door inserts, armrests and the console lid if they are leather. Use the total with your label's coverage figure.

Does the calculator work with any brand?

Yes. Enter your own amount per treatment, or your label's coverage and your leather area. The 150 ml starting point and the 3-month and 6-month schedules come from Colourlock and Leather Honey; the calculator does not recommend a brand.
